Chris moved to San Diego several years ago after working for a number of high tech firms in Silicon Valley and Seattle -- Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, to name a few. She is married and has 2 kids, and enjoys 4 grandkids. Her love of dogs and horses comes through in her art, but she's also painted landscapes and seascapes. Chris took up painting in 2022, taking classes with Jayne Stewart and she attended numerous workshops. Her love of dogs and horses comes through in her art, but she's also painted landscapes and seascapes. She's a member of San Diego Watercolor Society, and attributes much of her experiences with the artist's community in San Diego to the Society. Chuck McPherson and Drew Pearson have all been helpful coaches as well.
StatementAfter many years of raising kids and a demanding high-tech career, I decided 2 years ago to try and paint. The last time I held a paint brush was 60 years ago, in high school. So it was daunting! Thanks to a few encouraging teachers and the memories of my artist mother who never gave up encouraging me to return to art, I stuck with it. The artist's community in San Diego is so nourishing. If you're stuck - there's always someone there to pull you out.
People and pets inspire me, although a beautiful landscape may just require a response. It's a mystery which subjects actually attract me to paint them, but by doing so I discover some of their meaning for me. And it always involves a longing for a connection of some kind.
I'm hoping to continue to grow and challenge myself to expand into more abstract and more adventurous techniques, all of which helps me feel more alive. When I feel my age, painting for 20 minutes does away with a lot of that reality and brings me back to who I always was -- and still am!
