Dana Levine

<div>

Born in Brooklyn, NY, I spent my professional years not as an artist but as a scientist and science educator. Upon retiring to San Diego, I became an artist, photographer, and art lecturer at the Univ. of California at San Diego.
Both artists and scientists strive to see nature with a fresh eye. As a scientist turned artist, I now explore the inner richness of nature and the human form in a visual medium with a paintbrush, digital camera and Photoshop. I try to convey vulnerability in people and express ideas and stories behind the images. &nbsp; And always, I look for beauty in unexpected places.
I give talks on art and science at Univ. of California at San Diego. My favorite subjects to paint and photograph are people and street art. In the last few years, my work has vacillated between creating serene pieces, particularly watery, reflective scenes, or depicting figures ensnared in their environment. This is my psychological response to the anxieties of the time and my desire to achieve tranquility.
I exhibit and belong to several arts organizations in the San Diego area, and am a member of the Board of La Jolla Art Association. My work can be seen on the web (<a href="http://www.danalevineart.com">www.danalevineart.com</a>). Please contact me for more information if you are interested in my work. Statement

I  spent my career as a scientist and science educator. After moving to San Diego I renewed my interest in art and took up photography. Today, I work with visual, impressionistic images rather than chemical symbols and mathematical equations.

My aim as an artist is to express the richness of nature and the human form. My vision as a photographer is to infuse light, atmosphere and mystery into my work, and create beauty from things we may never notice.

I exhibit my work in San Diego and have had one woman shows at Emory University in Atlanta and Scripps Clinic. I am the cofounder of an art critique group for painters and a photoshoot/critique group for photographers, and give talks about art and photography at U. C. San Diego.

I exhibit and have belonged to several art organizations in the San Diego area including the San Diego Museum of Art, Museum of Photographic Arts, Athenaeum Music and Art Library, La Jolla Art Association, San Diego Watercolor Society, Digital Art Guild, San Diego Visual Arts Network, and the San Diego Photoshop Users Group.
