"Good Book, Cup of Tea, and my Best Friend"

What draws us into a painting? What makes us return to a painting for one more viewing before we leave a museum or gallery?

It is the emotion the artist was feeling at the time of creation. That emotion can be conveyed through time in a painting that is 400 years old. Even though it was not our time, it in still relatable in current times.

Emotion is a part of all of us. Whether it is a sweet souvenir, a feeling of comfort, or a discovery.

It is with this spirit that I choose my subjects. I primarily paint Plein Air.
When I am outside painting, all my senses come alive. I get excited, rapidly trying to capture that moment, capture the emotion that I am feeling. At times it just the awe of how beautiful nature and our world really is. I believe this in itself is enough.

I enjoy painting still life and the figure as well. It is then that I slow down, and become a little more pensive. When painting a model, each one has their own story, their own character. The artist has to discover the individual and convey this through their portrait.

Art is my best friend, it has been there for me in times of change, times of joy, and in difficult times. It is an insatiable partner, always more to explore, to learn. This process will never end, and for that I am grateful.
